Job Manager performance optimization

When you launch an analysis in Autodesk Moldflow Insight, the Job Manager will copy the study file from your project directory to the directory specified by the Temporary Directory setting for the Job Server on which the job is to be run.

Once the analysis has completed on the selected Job Server, the results are copied back to the project directory. Note that if you close Autodesk Moldflow Insight and the analysis completes while the program is not running, the results will not be copied back until you reopen Autodesk Moldflow Insight.

If you are experiencing Job Manager related problems, then please consider the following suggestions:

• Job Manager related problems can often be attributed to insufficient disk space in the temporary directory. The disk space consumed will depend on a number of factors:
  • How many jobs are running simultaneously
  • The size of the intermediate and temporary files generated by a particular type of analysis. Cool analyses in particular requires a large amount of temporary disk space during the analysis, for example > 1 GB for a complicated model.
  • How frequently the files in the temporary directory are being purged. Access the Job Server node properties (Analysis > Job Manager right click on a Job Server node (Local Host is the current machine) select Properties), you will find a setting Delete temporary files older than. The default setting is 7d, which means 7 days. If you are running a lot of simulations and want the temporary directory to be purged more frequently, reduce this value accordingly.
• Always set the temporary directory for the Local Host Job Server to a directory on a local disk. Autodesk Moldflow Insight performance will degrade considerably if large amounts of data need to be written across the network. For optimal performance, a fast access disk should be used. The location of the temporary file can be reviewed by accessing the Job Server node properties as outlined in the previous step. If the location of the temporary file needs to be altered, refer to the Installation Guide for the platform the current machine operates on.
• If you are running jobs from different Autodesk Moldflow Insight releases on the same machine, we highly recommend that you specify a different temporary directory in each application. For example, if you are running jobs in Autodesk Moldflow Insight 2015 and Autodesk Moldflow Insight 2016, you should set the Job Server temporary directories to C:\ASMI 2015 Temporary Files and C:\AMI 2016 Temporary Files.
• Check the file ami2016.sta in the Job Server temporary directory. It lists the simulation jobs being administered by the Job Manager. Each entry specifies the name of the host from which the job was launched, then the project directory and the Job Server temporary directory.
  Note: If necessary, you can use this information in the file ami2016.sta to manually copy back results from the temporary directory where the analysis was run to the original project directory.
