Solver message 304516

Message text

** ERROR 304516 ** The stroke (XXX) for valve gate controller (YYY) is greater than gate channel length (ZZZ). Either the stroke specified is too large, or the valve pin is not modeled in its full open position.

Explanation

This error message refers to two requirements when modeling and setting up valve gate controllers for variable speed control of the valve gate:
  1. The valve gate must be modeled with the valve pin in the full open position, regardless of the initial state (open or closed) of the valve pin. This requirement is to avoid problems for sections where the pin comes in complete contact with the gate channel, which would result in annular beam elements with zero cross-sectional area.
  2. The Maximum pin stroke is a required entry in the View/Edit Valve Gate Controller dialog, and refers to the distance the valve pin tip can travel, in mm, from totally open to totally closed. The valve pin tip is the section of the valve pin that comes into contact with the gate channel geometry, when fully closed.

    Maximum pin stroke

The Maximum pin stroke cannot be greater than the gate channel length.

Resolution

  1. Ensure that the valve pin has been modeled in its full open position. If not, remodel it in the full open position.
  2. If the valve pin has been modeled correctly, check the Maximum pin stroke in the View/Edit Valve Gate Controller dialog.
To access the View/Edit Valve Gate Controller dialog,
  1. Click (Boundary Conditions tab > Feed System panel > Valve Gate Controller) and select Create/Edit.
  2. Select the valve gate controller identified in the error message and click View/Edit.
  3. In the View/Edit Valve Gate Controller dialog, change the Maximum pin stroke to the correct value.
  4. Click OK to close the dialog, and all subsequent dialogs.
