Create 3D channel mesh for conformal cooling

Conformal cooling channels are meshed with the 3D Channel Mesh tool.

Before attempting to use the 3D channel mesh, check the following requirements have been met:

  • A part model is in your study and has been meshed.
  • The analysis sequence includes a Cool (FEM) analysis.
  • An injection location has been set for the part.
  • A CAD representation of the conformal cooling body has been created and added to the study, using (Home tab > Import panel > Add 3D Channel).
  • Channel (3D) Inlets and Channel (3D) outlets have been assigned. There should be an equal number of conformal cooling inlets and outlets.
  1. Click (Mesh tab > Mesh panel > 3D Channel Mesh).
  2. Check the default values in the Generate 3D Channel Mesh dialog.
  3. Once all the values are set appropriately, click Mesh Now.
  4. Note: While the conformal cooling channels are being meshed with 3D tetrahedral elements, any visible conventional cooling channels will be meshed with beam elements.
