Time Steps

To setup time steps for a Nonlinear Transient Heat Transfer analysis, right-click on Time Step under your Subcase in the Autodesk Nastran In-CAD tree and select Edit.

• Name: Names the time step.
• ID: The ID of the property is automatically updated by Autodesk Nastran In-CAD, similar to Materials.
• Interval Listing: Automatically generates an interval listing based on the interval setup.
• Solution Settings:
  • Step Method:
    • Adaptive: This setting tells the solver to use an adaptive time step algorithm that determines the time step based upon changes in the solution.
    • Constant: This setting tells the solver to use a constant interval time step.

  Solutions Settings only appears when a nonlinear transient heat transfer analysis type is selected.

• Interval Setup:
  • Dependent Term: Toggles on 2 of the 3 input parameters to allow flexibility in defining the interval.
  • Time Step: Duration of the time step.
  • Number of Time Steps: Number of time steps to be performed for the interval.
  • Duration: Duration of the interval.
  • Skip Factor (for output): Limits the number of output sets. Using a skip factor of 2 will give you 1 output set for every two time steps.
