Moving in the 3D View

The following table describes all of the keyboard and mouse commands that you can use to move in the 3D view.

UP ARROW

Move forward in the view.

Moves the view up relative to the 3D window.

Walk forward in the view.

DOWN ARROW

Move backwards in the view.

Moves the view down relative to the 3D window.

Walk backwards in the view.

LEFT ARROW

Move left along the X-axis.

Move left along the X-axis.

Walk sideways to the left.

RIGHT ARROW

Move right along the X-axis.

Move right along the X-axis.

Walk sideways to the right.

NOTE:depending on keyboard layout or language, the keys at the top left of the keyboard—the "gaming keys"—also function as movement keys. On an English-language keyboard these are the w, a, s, and d keys.

Mouse: right click

Opens the contextual or shortcut menu, which contains command shortcuts for several Navigation Lab functions.

Mouse: left click and drag

Rotates the view.

Rotates the view.

NOTE:you can also lock the rotation of the Ortho view in the Camera Settings dialog.

Right or left: changes direction during movement (steering).

Mouse: double left click

Move the point of view to the location of the cursor.

Mouse: CTRL+left click

Select VisualDebug elements in the 3D view.

Mouse: wheel button

Changes the altitude of the camera: scroll forward to decrease the altitude; scroll backward to increase the altitude.

SHIFT+Keypad 2

Move backwards in the view.

Move the view down relative to the 3D window.

Walk backwards in the view.

SHIFT+Keypad 8

Move forward in the view.

Move the view up relative to the 3D window.

Walk forward in the view.

Keypad 2

Move back along the Y-axis.

Move back along the Y-axis.

NOTE:movement along the X and Y axes is relative to the axis and the 3D object; if the view is rotated, movement along an axis will follow the repositioned (rotated) axis.
