Distances and Angles

All measurements originate on the Measure tile menu, which is located on the contextual menu area at the bottom edge of the screen. For standard ReCap user's this will provide access to the basic distance tool and note tool. Advanced measurement options are only available to ReCap 360 and ReCap 360 Ultimate users. Web users have a subset of this functionality available as well but since it relies strictly on the 2D environment some of the advanced measurement options are not available.

You can use the measurement tools to determine

  1. · The distance between two points
  2. · Orthogonal distances related to the two primary points
  3. · The angle formed by three points
  4. · The angle of one face to another

***Note*** Working in 3D space can be tricky. Be sure to view these measurements from different viewpoints to make sure you have snapped to the correct points.

You can create and edit notes that label the various measurements you create. When you don't need the notes or measurements, you can delete them or temporarily hide them. As mentioned previously, all of these options are available through the measurements in the canvas. Or from within the Project Navigator.

Placing a measurement is as simple as selecting a couple points. An angle can be derived quickly by selecting three points or by selecting two faces depending on the mode selected.

There are a number of extra features available as part of the distance that can reveal additional functionality for obtaining specific measurements. In the example above we can see that the distance tool provides real-time feedback on the distance between the two primary points as well as secondary information around the scenes x, y and z planes.

You can also switch into the "Ortho Mode" at any time by hitting the Shift key or through the contextual tool in the distance menu.

Once activated the distance tool will provide measurements based on the horizontal and vertical axes related to the two points.

The longer of the two lines will be selected by default. You can switch between the selected measurements with the Shift key.

Additional precision when working with piping can be gained with the "Pipe Snap" toggle. When this mode is active the distance tool will automatically detect any cylindrical object under the cursor, snap to the cross section at that point, and provide measurements from either the center point or the circumference.

Ortho mode can still be toggled with the Shift key while in this state.

Likewise, switching between the center point and the circumference of the cylinder can be achieved with the Alt key.

Once you're finished, just click the "Done" button to exit the tool.

Cylinder dimensions can be seen by clicking on the cylinder endpoint once a measurement has been placed.
