Create Global Parameters

Create a global parameter are for scheduling, sorting, and filtering in a project.

Note: These features are available only to students and to Autodesk Maintenance and Desktop Subscription customers for Revit 2016 software releases.
  1. Click Manage tab Settings panel (Global Parameters).
  2. In the Global Parameters dialog, click (New Global Parameter).
  3. In the Global Parameter Properties dialog, complete the following fields:
    • Name
Tip: Global parameters are sorted in the Global Parameters dialog alphabetically by name. To group parameters together, include a prefix in the Name when creating these parameters.
    • Discipline
    • Type of Parameter (See Parameter Types.)
  4. Select Reporting Parameter if you want to use this parameter to extract a value from a geometric condition and use it to report the data to a formula or associate it to a schedulable parameter.
  5. Optionally, under Tooltip Description, click Edit Tooltip. In the Edit Tooltip dialog, enter the tooltip text, up to 250 characters, and click OK.
  6. Click OK.
  7. In the Global Parameters dialog, define the parameter, by entering:
    • Value
    • Formula
    • Note: To use a parameter name that contains a special character, such as a hyphen, in a formula, include square brackets around the parameter name in the formula, for example, [col-grid]. The brackets ensure that the hyphen is not interpreted as a mathematical operator.
  8. Click OK.
  9. To delete a selected parameter in the Global Parameters dialog, click (Delete Global Parameter).
Important: If you delete a parameter that is used in a formula for another parameter, the formula is also deleted.
  10. To display model views with a specific parameter, select the parameter, and click Show.
