Using Inventor and 3rd Party CAD Files in Vault

Vault supports Inventor's flexible handling of third-party CAD files. However, there are some restrictions in how these third-party CAD files are handled by Vault.

Refer to the following table to see how different Vault functions handle third-party CAD files.

Note: Autodesk Vault Professional provides many additional capabilities for Pro Engineer and Solidworks CAD files via their respective add-ins. These add-ins are available to Vault Professional subscription customers.

Special Considerations

Assign Category

Assign Item

During Assign Item, Vault creates a BOM row only for the top level of the AnyCAD reference.

For example, if the AnyCAD reference is a Solidworks assembly, the BOM row is created only for the assembly and not any children.

Vault creates an item for the top level of the AnyCAD reference and links it to the Inventor model as if the top level assembly is a virtual part.
