Joint dialog box

Defines joints between components to position component occurrences relative to other occurrences in a model.

Model or Patch Joint

Component1
Select the joint origin or geometry on the first component. The first component selected will move to the second component.
Component2
Select the joint origin or geometry on the second component.
Angle
Specify an angle to rotate the joint origins.
Offset
Specify a value to offset the joint origins.
Flip
Reverses the orientation of the joint.
Type
Select the type of joint to create. Depending on the type selected, you can change the orientation of the allowed movement.

    Select the direction the component can move or rotate.

Rigid

Locks components together, removing all degrees of freedom.

Revolute

Allows the component to rotate around joint origin.

Slider

Allows the component to translate along a single axis.

Cylindrical

Allows the component to rotate and translate along the same axis.

Pin-slot

The component can rotate about an axis and translate about a different axis.

Planar

Allows the component to translate along two axes and rotate about a single axis.

Ball

Allows the component to rotate about all three axes using a gimbal system (three nested rotations).

Animate
Shows the allowed motion by animating Component1. Click again to stop the animation.

Tips

Hover the mouse over a face then hold Command (Mac) or Ctrl (Windows) to lock that face.

Component1 is always the component that moves to satisfy the joint.
