In this tutorial, we determine the displacement and the stress distribution of the support beam due to a uniformly applied, downward force acting on the middle portion of the top flange. The top of the beam has already been split into three separate surfaces to confine the load to the intended portion of the span. We use 3D spring supports instead of rigid constraints to prevent local stress exaggeration at the support areas.
The results of the first analysis exceed allowable displacement and von Mises stress guidelines. We then modify the support beam, using Autodesk SimStudio Tools, to increase the height of the beam by 60mm. Finally, we re-analyze the beam and find that the displacement and stresses are within the target limits after modification.
