Exercise 1: Save to AutoCAD

Save the industry model drawing as a plain AutoCAD DWG file.

If you are connected to the Internet, play the video to see how to save the industry model drawing as a plain DWG file that any AutoCAD user can open and edit. You can also click "Let Me Try" to try it yourself. The steps for this procedure are listed below the video.

To save an industry model drawing as a plain AutoCAD drawing

  1. Close the Industry Model Explorer to see more of your map.

    Only the portion of the drawing that appears in the viewing area will be exported, and only the layers that are displayed will be included. You can use the zoom commands to adjust what appears in the viewing areas. Use Display Manager to deselect any layers that you do not want to include.

  2. Click Output tab > Data Transfer panel > Save Current Map To AutoCAD.
  3. In the Save Current Map To AutoCAD window, make sure Editable is selected and then click Next.
  4. For Specify File Type And Location, click the browse button and specify a folder and file name for the target AutoCAD drawing. Click Save.
  5. Click Next.

    You can create a template to control the style of the output drawing. You can also save feature attributes as XData. For this example, you will not use those options.

  6. Click Finish.
