Provides learning information, methods to create a new scene or open recent files, and access to various Autodesk resources for
3ds Max.
There are three tabs on the Welcome Screen:
- Learn
- Features a list of 1-minute Startup movies, as well as other learning resources, including links to the 3ds Max Learning Channel, the 3ds Max Learning Path, and downloadable sample files.
Note: When you select a 1-minute Startup movie, you are taken to a Web page to view the movie, which requires an Internet connection. From this Web page you have the option to download all of the 1-minute Startup movies to your computer (
www.autodesk.com/3dsmax-essentials).
- Start
- Allows you to open a recent file or create a new scene. You can choose from the listed recent files or click the Browse button to search for a different file.
Note: You can manage your list of recent files by editing the file
RecentDocuments.xml,
which can be found in the root folder where
3ds Max is installed.
To create a new scene, choose a template from the Start-Up Templates panel. Once you have chosen a template, click New Using Selected Template to begin work.

- Features ways to extend the capabilities of 3ds Max.
You can discover one of the featured apps from the Autodesk Exchange store, as well as a list of useful Autodesk resources, including Autodesk 360 and The Area. You can also add to your scene by clicking the Autodesk Animation Store link, and the Download Vegetation link.
