Model - Drawing principles

The drawings are created in separate DWG files from the model, however they are linked to track changes. A drawing may consist of several linked details, which are individual Advance objects with their own properties.

The model knows which drawings have been linked and checks if these drawings still correlate. Thus, the drawings can be updated after any model modifications. This link is one way only and changing a drawing will not modify the model.

Drawing styles and drawing processes

A wide range of drawing styles allows you to automatically create each type of drawing. In addition to drawing styles, Advance includes drawing processes which automatically create part drawings (using appropriate drawing styles) and arrange the created details within a drawing (.dwg) or across several drawings.

Best practice:You can directly use drawing styles to create part drawings and assembly drawings if desired. Generally, it is more efficient to use the drawing processes and therefore recommended. The only time it is useful to directly select a drawing style would be if a certain style is required for a particular type of part such as a stringer.

Drawing creation procedures

You can automatically create all types of drawings associated to the design process:

• General arrangement drawings
• Workshop drawings
• Assembly drawings
• Part drawings

According to the type of drawing to be created, use the adequate procedure:

Create part drawings:

1. Select the objects to detail.
2. Start the Drawing Processes palette.
3. Select a drawing process for parts.

Create assembly drawings:

1. Select the objects to detail.
2. Start the Drawing Processes palette.
3. Select a drawing process for assemblies.

Create general arrangement drawings:

1. Decide on the views you require and for each view:
   1. Set UCS as necessary.
   2. Start Drawing Styles palette..
   3. Select a drawing style corresponding to the desired view.
   4. Select the prototype or an existing drawing.
   5. Repeat as required until all general arrangement drawings are done.

Finish drawings

The linked drawings (details) can be automatically dimensioned and labeled, but additional dimensions and labels can be added later using Advance Steel's special tools:

• Manipulate drawings.
• Add annotations and symbols.
• Add dimensions.
• Manage drawings.

Track changes in the revision table

The revision table is automatically updated with the list of revision notes for all changes made in the model.
