If the Autodesk distribution of Red Hat Enterprise Linux cannot be used, the regular Red Hat distribution can be used with Autodesk's kickstart files.
Install Red Hat Enterprise Linux
The kickstart files run a script that takes the original Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) ISO, adds the kickstart, and outputs a new ISO.
- From
Red Hat, buy and download the installation ISOs (disc images) of the Standard Subscription (not Self-support) for RHEL x86_64 Workstation.
- Download the DKU from the
Flame system requirements page, untar the file.
- On a Linux PC, open a shell as root and cd to the
kickstart directory. Run
build_kickstart_cd. This adds the kickstart files to the ISO image of your Linux distribution DVD.
./build_kickstart_cd redhat6/ks.cfg [path to RHEL ISO] RHEL6.5_KS.iso
- Burn the updated ISO image to a DVD.
To install the RHEL you've updated with the kickstart file:
- The Linux installation formats the system disk and deletes all data, so power off all storage enclosures connected to the system. If left on, the installer may reformat them as part of the installation process, resulting in data loss. Likewise you may disconnect any internal storage drives, excluding the system drive. Turn off the RAID controllers first, then the expansion enclosures.
- Insert the disc in the drive and power off the machine.
- Power on the machine. At system post, press F9 on the keyboard at the prompt to enter the Boot menu. Choose to boot the machine from the drive containing the kickstart DVD ISO.
- At the RHEL Welcome screen, choose "Install system with a basic video driver" and press the Tab key. This presents the command line with the
vmlinuz command and some parameters used to install the OS, for example:
vmlinuz initrd=initrd.img. Append to the kickstart parameters
linux ks=cdrom so that the whole command line looks like:
vmlinuz initrd=initrd.img linux ks=cdrom
Press Enter to begin the installation. If the installation hangs, it may be because the installer doesn't have an appropriate driver for your video card. Try running the installer in text-only mode by appending
text to the
vmlinuz command:
vmlinuz initrd=initrd.img linux ks=cdrom text
- When the installation is complete, eject the DVD and reboot. After the system reboots, you may be prompted by the hardware setup utility to set up new hardware detected for your system. You can ignore these prompts and allow the utility's count-down to expire if the hardware for the system is unchanged.
- Login as root (password: password).
