Install MotionBuilder on a Linux OS

Use either the installation wizard or the Red Hat Package Manager (RPM) utility.

The default installation path for the MotionBuilder 2017 software product on a Linux OS is: /usr/autodesk/MotionBuilder2017.

Note: Unlike a stand-alone license of MotionBuilder on a Windows OS, there is no trial period to run a stand-alone license of MotionBuilder on a Linux OS.
Important: Before running MotionBuilder 2017 on the Red Hat Enterprise Linux 6.5 and CentOS 6.5, you must apply the patches mentioned in https://rhn.redhat.com/errata/RHBA-2013-1836.html and https://access.redhat.com/articles/11258. Otherwise, there may be errors in MotionBuilder, such as incorrect orientation of Transport Controls.

Keyboard Mapping

Some MotionBuilder keyboard shortcuts may not work as expected under the KDE or Gnome environment.

You can change the Linux default Alt key mapping to META (Windows) to enable the MotionBuilder Alt-drag behavior to function. Depending on the KDE and Gnome versions, the methods of selecting the key bindings may differ. Refer to the KDE and Gnome documentation to customize the default keyboard shortcuts.
