About Installation Prerequisites

Before installing, make sure that you’ve prepared your system and gathered all the information you need.

Review Readme and Check Requirements

Review the Readme file and check that your system and hardware are compatible with the product you want to install.

Most Windows systems and all Mac OS X systems are now 64-bit. To check your Windows system, go to the System control panel.

Get Permissions

You probably already have Local User Administrative permissions. To verify in Windows, select Control Panel > User Accounts > Manage User Accounts. On Mac OS X, check System Preferences > Users & Groups to verify that you have Admin status.

Install System Updates and Disable Antivirus Programs

If you have pending operating system updates, install them and reboot. Consider temporarily disabling any antivirus programs, because they often interfere with installation.

Empty Your Windows TEMP Folder

If you’re running Windows, empty your TEMP folder before installing. If you have problems installing and need to contact Autodesk Product Support, a support technician may need to review the installation logs in your TEMP folder.

To open your TEMP folder, type %TEMP% in the address bar of Windows Explorer and press Enter.

If Needed, Locate Serial Number and Product Key

If you have a stand-alone license, activate your software using the serial number and product key in your confirmation email. (If you didn't receive a serial number and product key, sign in with your Autodesk ID.)

Exit Running Programs

Exit all running programs, except the product installer.
