Move, rotate, and scale using precise values

While it's easy to use the manipulators for the Move, Rotate, and Scale Tools tools to transform objects and components, there are times when you need to use precise values. You can do this using either the Channel Box or the Input box in the status line.

Watch this video to see how to transform objects and components with precision using the Channel Box and the Input box.

To enter exact transformation values in the Channel Box

  1. Select the object or component.
  2. In the Channel Box, enter a value in the appropriate X, Y, or Z channel field for Translate (move), Rotate, and/or Scale attributes.

To enter exact transformation values in the Input box

  1. Select the object or component.
  2. Select the Move, Rotate, or Scale Tools.
  3. In the Input box at the right end of the Status line (toolbar), click the icon beside the text box and select either Absolute Transform or Relative Transform.
Note: If you select Absolute Transform, make sure that your object's transform values are frozen (or set to 0) since entering these values in the Input box will reset them.
  4. Click the input field and type X, Y, and Z values in the appropriate fields - see Flip objects for an example.
Note:

If you are moving a selected NURBS object to an extreme distance or scaling an NURBS object to an extreme size, you may need to activate the High Precision NURBS display to view the objects correctly. The High Precision NURBS display setting can be found in Window > Settings/Preferences > Preferences in the NURBS category under the heading Display.
