Create a new target shape from the blend shape

After you create a blend shape from a mix of target shape weight settings, you can bake the base object's current blend shape state into a new target shape.

Watch this video or follow the steps below to create a new target shape from the blend shape.

Note: This video illustrates how to create a new target shape from the blend shape in Maya, but you can do the same in Maya LT.

To save the blend shape as a new target shape

  1. In the Shape Editor, drag the weight sliders for one or more target shapes to deform the base object as you want it - see Set weights for target shapes.
  2. Select the base object.
  3. Choose Create > Add Selection as Target in the Shape Editor. Select if you want to create different types of target shapes (tangent or transform types).

Maya creates a new target shape for the blend shape deformer, and it appears in the Shape Editor.

  4. Drag the new target shape's weight slider to reach this new target shape as the blend shape on the base object.
