Select a shrinkage model (Midplane and Dual Domain)
|
Shows the shrinkage model that will be used in the flow simulation (Midplane and Dual Domain).
The following options are available:
- Uncorrected residual stress
- This option will be selected when there is no shrinkage data available for the material. In this case, the Fill+Pack analysis predicts the residual stress values within in the part, based on the flow and thermal history during the molding cycle.
- Corrected residual in-mold stress (CRIMS)
- This option is the default when shrinkage testing has been performed on the material. This model is the most accurate because it is obtained by correlating actual tested shrinkage values with Fill+Pack analysis predictions.
Note: You can view the CRIMS model coefficients for the dataset(s) that are available for the selected material. The analysis always uses the dataset that is appropriate for the selected material, analysis sequence, and process settings.
- Residual strain
- This option is selected for those materials where the CRIMS model was found to not adequately describe the shrinkage behavior of the material.
Note: You can view the residual strain model coefficients for the dataset(s) that are available for the selected material. The analysis always uses the dataset that is appropriate for the selected material, analysis sequence, and process settings.

Select a shrinkage model (3D)
|
Shows the shrinkage model that will be used in the flow simulation (3D).
The following options are available:
- Generic shrinkage model
- It currently supports all thermoplastics and thermoset processes.
- Uncorrected residual stress
- This option is the default. It currently supports all thermoplastics and thermoset processes. With this option selected and mesh aggregation off, molded-in residual stress results are generated in the 3D warpage analysis.
Note: If this model is selected and run, the following messages will be shown in the analysis log:
-
Residual stress calculation: ON - under the flow section
- Residual stress model is used - in the warp section.

Observed nominal shrinkage
|
The average shrinkage value that was observed during shrinkage testing.
If the material has been shrinkage tested, the observed nominal shrinkage is the average shrinkage value, parallel and perpendicular to the direction of flow, that was observed under the test conditions used in the shrinkage testing. Alternatively, it may represent a single ISO value for shrinkage. Refer to the test information for specific information about the source of the shrinkage data.
Note: This data is not used by the warpage solver.
|
Observed shrinkage
|
The maximum and minimum shrinkage values that were observed during shrinkage testing.
If the material has been shrinkage tested, the Observed shrinkage reports the maximum and minimum shrinkage values, parallel and perpendicular to the direction of flow, that were observed under the specific test conditions.
Note: This data is not used by the warpage solver.

Shrinkage Molding Summary
|
The measured in-plane shrinkage, parallel and perpendicular to the flow direction, under a range of injection molding conditions.
If the material has been shrink tested, this summary lists the following parameters:
- Tmelt
- Temperature of the melt.
- Tmold
- Temperature of the mold.
- FlowRateR
- Flow rate based of the movement of the ram.
- FlowRateF
- Flow rate based on the filling of the cavity.
- RamDiam
- Diameter of the injection molding machine ram.
- RamInit
- Stroke length of the ram.
- Thick
- Part thickness.
- HoldP
- Holding pressure.
- HoldT
- Holding time.
- CoolT
- Cooling time.
- ParaShrink
- Shrinkage parallel to the flow direction.
- PerpShrink
- Shrinkage perpendicular to the flow direction.
These results are the basis for the
Observed shrinkage results.
