To assign the Preform element (3D) property

For an RTM or SRIM analysis, resin is forced to flow through a cavity in which reinforcing preform (also called fiber mat) is present.

In order to run an RTM or SRIM analysis for 3D meshed models, you must specify which are the preform elements.

  1. In the Layers pane, deselect all layers except the layer containing the preform elements.
  2. Click Select All (Geometry tab > Selection panel > Select All) to select the entire fiber mat.
  3. Click Assign (Geometry tab > Properties panel > Assign).
  4. Click New > Preform element (3D) to assign the Preform element (3D) property to all the preform elements. In the Preform element (3D) dialog, either use the selected preform, edit the properties of the selected preform, or select a new preform.
  5. In the Preform Properties tab, select the required preform for the analysis. If you click Select, you can search the supplied database for an appropriate preform to use.
  6. Specify the required preform orientation.
  7. Adjust the porosity and permeability if appropriate.
  8. Click OK twice.
