Surface Repair Tools-Edit Surface Ties tool

This tool provides tools for manually repairing surface defects identified using the surface diagnostic displays in the Modeling menu. To access this tool, click Edit Surface Ties (Geometry tab > Modify panel > Surface > Edit Surface Ties).

Use the Edit Surface Ties Edit Surface Ties command to edit an existing surface tie definition or to define a new surface tie.

A surface tie defines an association between a curve on the boundary of one surface, and a curve on the boundary of another surface. Surface ties are used to identify minor mismatches between surface boundaries. When the part is later meshed, the mesher will use the surface tie definitions to correct for the boundary mismatches and ensure that no free edges are created in these areas.

Surface 1
This text box is used to specify the first of the two surfaces between which you want to define a surface tie.

You can either enter the surface number manually, for example, S100, or click on the relevant surface in the model display window.

After selecting the surface, the loops and curves from which the surface is constructed are listed in a tree format in the window below.

Surface 2
This text box is used to specify the second of the two surfaces between which you want to define a surface tie.

You can either enter the surface number manually, for example, S100, or click on the relevant surface in the model display window.

After selecting the surface, the loops and curves from which the surface is constructed are listed in a tree format in the window below.

Surface topology tree
After selecting either surface 1 or surface 2 in the fields above, this window displays in a tree format the loops and curves from which the surface boundary(s) is constructed. As you click on each entry in the tree, the corresponding curve in the model is highlighted and the specific surface-loop-curve selection is displayed in the text box next to the surface number.
Create as
Allows you to simultaneously create a modeling entity and assign properties to it.
For example
  • You can create a curve and assign runner properties to it.
  • You can create a region and assign part surface properties to it.

In some cases you have the option to Create as modeling entity. No properties will be assigned. This option may be appropriate if, for example, you are creating curves to construct a region. You must assign properties to the region, but you don't need to assign properties to the curves.

Tip: To change the properties of an entity, click Change.
Filter
The filter helps you select a desired model or mesh entity. When you use a filter, the pointer will snap to the specified entity.
