Powder Properties tab

The Powder Properties tab enables you to specify the details of your feedstock so you can run a powder injection molding simulation.

To access this dialog, make sure you have a 3D model, and that you have selected Powder injection molding as the molding process.

Click (Home tab > Molding Process Setup panel > Process Settings).

Click Next if necessary, and navigate to the page with the Advanced options button.

Click Advanced options, click Edit associated with Molding material, then select the Powder Properties tab.

Dialog widget Explanation

Powder radius

The powder radius default value is 10 microns. For a more accurate solution, enter the value as provided by your material supplier.

Initial powder volume concentration

The initial powder volume fraction is the percentage of powder in the feedstock, as provided by your material supplier.

Maximum powder volume concentration

The maximum powder volume fraction is the maximum possible concentration of powder in the suspension. 68% is a reasonable estimate if you don't know this value for your material, and is the default value.

Particle stress coefficients

The more information you enter about your feedstock, the more accurate your simulation will be.

Kn

Kn is a fitted parameter, which increases the powder segregation effect as it is increased. The default value is 3.0.

Lamda 1

Lambda 1 is a measured value from experimental data, and represents the normal stress tensor in the flow direction. The default value is 1.0.

Lamda 2

Lambda 2 is a measured value from experimental data, and represents the normal stress tensor in the perpendicular flow direction. The default value is 0.8.

Lamda 3

Lambda 3 is a measured value from experimental data, and represents the normal stress tensor in the curl direction. The default value is 0.5.
