Fill+Pack Analysis tab dialog

This dialog is used to specify filling phase, packing phase, gate diameter and general solver parameters for the 3D flow solver used in a Fill+Pack or Flow analysis of a 3D model.

To access this dialog, choose an analysis sequence which includes Fill or Fill+Pack (or Flow). Click Process Settings (Home tab > Molding Process Setup panel > Process Settings). Click Next, if necessary, until the Fill or Fill+Pack Settings page appears. Click Advanced Options, then click Edit in the Solver Parameters group. On the Thermoplastics injection molding solver parameters (3D) dialog, select the Fill+Pack Analysis tab.

All solver parameters have a default value that will be suitable for most analyses.

Note: Access to these dialog widgets is dependent on your selection of molding process, analysis sequence, and material and are visible only when the appropriate combination has been selected.
Dialog Widget Explanation
Simulate inertia effect Specify whether you want the effects of inertia to be included in the Navier-Stokes calculation. Selecting this option will improve analysis accuracy for thick parts, but is the most compute-intensive option.
Simulate gravity effect Specify whether you want the effects of gravity to be included in the Navier-Stokes 3D flow simulation calculation.
Simulate wall slip

Select this option if you want the effects of wall slip to be included in the flow simulation calculations.

  • The additional calculations required for considering wall slip will result in a slower analysis.
  • It is recommended that inertia is turned on when simulating wall slop
When the melt temperature at a wall node is less than the defined temperature threshold, and the melt pressure at that same wall node is greater than the specified pressure threshold, slip is not applied to that node. Both conditions must be true simultaneously for this to apply. This implementation has the following limitations:
  • Slip conditions are not implemented in beam elements.
  • The constants in the slip velocity model must be characterized, or gathered from the literature.
  • Only wall slip at the polymer/wall interface is considered.
Number of threads for parallelization Specify the number of threads to be used for parallel solution.
Gate contact diameter Set an automatic or specific gate diameter, for use when analyzing your part without a gate(s) or runner system.
Solver parameters Access the filling phase and packing/curing phase parameters for the 3D flow solver.
Intermediate results Specify the type of intermediate results that are recorded. This can be at constant intervals, specified times or not at all. The Edit intervals... option enables the number of intermediate results in the different process phases to be adjusted.
Fiber orientation analysis if fiber material (thermoplastic materials only) Enables a Fiber orientation analysis if the material includes fiber.
Birefringence analysis if material data includes optical properties (thermoplastic materials only) Produces stress-optical birefringence results if the material has optical properties.

Birefringence calculations add extra time to the analysis. Leave this option off if you do not need birefringence results

Note: You must also enable principal stress output results in the Warp process settings.
Crystallization analysis (requires material data) (thermoplastic materials only) Enables a Crystallization analysis when the material is semi-crystalline and material data includes crystallization morphology parameters.
