Generate mesh on IGES Models

The main goal while meshing an *.iges model is to fulfill a maximum of the Quality standards for Surface Meshes.

There are three main parameters to consider when working with *.iges models.

First click (Mesh tab > Mesh panel > Generate Mesh). Then select the NURBS tab.

Global Edge Length

Just like the other formats, the global edge length is the main parameter when meshing an *.iges model.

Chord Height

*.iges format uses the chord height instead of the chord angle. By default the chord height is 0.1mm.

When changing global edge length, the chord height value automatically changes too to reach 5% to 10% of the global edge length value. For the following specific geometries, the chord height may need to be changed manually:
  • Small curves, as there are not enough elements to work with. The chord height must then be locally reduced;
  • Huge curves, as there are thousands of elements, which increases dramatically the computing time. The chord height must then be locally increased.
Note: To personalize the Chord height , click Generate Mesh (Mesh tab > Mesh panel > Generate Mesh). Select the NURBS tab and enter the appropriate value.

Merge tolerance

By default the merge tolerance equals to 0.1mm. This parameter allows the software to create surfaces by merge the faces, as *.iges format does not provide connections.

Note: To personalize the Merge tolerance , click Generate Mesh (Mesh tab > Mesh panel > Generate Mesh). Select the NURBS tab and enter the appropriate value.
