There are a couple of key elements to assess prior to your launch:
- Height(s) and position(s) of UAV:
- Determine height and positioning through considering scene assessment, safely flying above the tallest object in the capture area*, flight automation capabilities, and project focus
*Likely will not apply to vertical inspection captures (eg, cell towers)
- The scene's background clarity:
-
Despite project focus, UAVs captures often produce the best reconstruction results with as much area in focus as possible (see Depth of Field), including the background. A defined background (eg, capturing the ground rather than the sky) often allows for ideal 3D reconstruction
A good example of this is a vertical inspection capture
Note: Despite your focus, other objects can invade the scene more than you might anticipate, so it is important your object is isolated well enough for the project, and dispel what you intend to be the foreground. Because your JPEGs have the best chance of accurate scene reconstruction when submitted untouched.
