About the Generic Connection

The generic connection is a symbolic representation of a steel connection designed with full geometry.

Unless structural connection add-ins are installed, only the symbolic generic connection is available to detailing your model.

The generic connection displays the joined and connected elements as a circle with line segments radiating out toward the connected elements.

Some connections require a means to identify the primary element in a connection in order to correctly create geometry to fabrication intent. In the preceding image, the beam to the left is the primary element. You assign a primary element by clicking the appropriate circle control in the drawing area. In the following image, the column is now the primary element.
