We will now assign the material properties to all six parts. We can assign the properties for all the brick element parts at once. We can then assign the properties for both truss element parts at once. Finally, we will assign the properties for the beam element part.
- Select the Material heading for Part 1 in the browser (tree view).
- Hold down the Ctrl key and click the Material heading for Part 2 in the browser.
- Hold down the Ctrl key and click the Material heading for Part 3 in the browser.
- Right-click one of the three selected headings and choose Edit Material.
- Select Aluminum 6061-T6; 6061-T651 in the list under the Aluminum folder in the Autodesk Simulation Material Library. The properties appear in the right side of the dialog box.
- Click OK.
- Double-click the Material heading for Part 4 in the browser.
- Select Steel (AISI 4130) in the list under the Steel
AISI folder.
- Click OK.
- Double-click the Material heading for Part 5 in the browser.
- Select Steel (AISI 4130).
- Click OK.
Tip: Even though parts 4 and 5 are the same material, you cannot set the material for both parts simultaneously. Different element types have different material models, and the material selection must be made separately. However, when the element type is the same, you can you can specify the material for several parts simultaneously (as we did in steps 1 and 2).
