We will now assign the material properties to all applicable parts. We can assign the material for the hand wheel and partial link in one operation since they have the same element type and material properties. Similarly, we can assign the material for the shaft extension and crank in one operation.
- Click the
Material heading under
Part 1 < Hand Wheel >
in the browser (tree view) to select it.
- Holding down the
Ctrl key, click the
Material heading under
Part 4 < Partial Link >
in the browser to select it also.
- Right-click one of the two selected headings and choose
Edit Material from the context menu.
- Select Brass, Red under the
Brass folder within the
Element Material Selection dialog. The properties display in the section to the right.
- Click
OK.
- Select the
Material heading under
Part 2 < Shaft Extension >
in the browser.
- Hold down the Ctrl key and click the
Material heading under
Part 3 < Crank >
in the browser to select it also.
- Right-click one of the two selected headings and choose
Edit Material from the context menu.
- Select Steel (AISI 4130) under the
AISI subfolder within the
Steel folder in the
Element Material Selection dialog.
- Click
OK.
- Double-click the
Material heading under
Part 7 < Centroid Mesh 1 >
in the browser.
- Select Steel (ASTM - A36) under the
ASTM subfolder within the
Steel folder in the
Element Material Selection dialog.
- Click
OK.
Note: Material selection is not applicable to the rigid elements. Everything needed to define rigid element properties is contained within the
Element Definition
dialog.
