Install Autodesk Vault Office Clients and Vault Add-ins for Microsoft Office and Microsoft Outlook

Follow the instructions in this section to install the Vault Office thin client functionality and the Vault Office thick client. You can also decide on which Vault add-ins to include.

Important: Make sure you completed the steps in Preparing for Your Vault Office Installation before you begin the installation process.

(Required) Install Vault Office (Server) on the Vault Server

    To use the Vault Office thin client functionality or the Vault thick client, you must install the Vault Office (Server).

    The Vault Office Server must be installed on a machine where Autodesk Vault Server is already installed.

  1. On your Vault server machine, navigate to C:\Program Files\Autodesk\ADMS [edition] [release]\Server\Web\Webclient (or your equivalent custom installation directory) and backup the web.config file.
  2. Run setup.exe on the Vault Server installation media.
  3. Click Install Tools & Utilities.
  4. Accept the License and Services Agreement.
  5. On the Configure Installation page, select Autodesk Vault Office 2017 (Server) .
  6. By default the Vault Office server is installed to C:\Program Files\Autodesk\. Click the Browse button to select a different location.
  7. Click Install.
  8. Once the Vault Office Server is installed, you can install the Vault Office Thin Client on your server machine or the Vault Office thick client on your client machine. If desired, you can also include the Microsoft Office and Microsoft Outlook Vault add-ins with either client installation.

(Optional) Install Vault Office Thin Client Functionality

    Note: The Vault Office Thin Client functionality is only available for Autodesk Vault Workgroup and Autodesk Vault Professional users.

    If desired, you can install the Vault Office thin client functionality on your server machine. Users can use the thin client to access a vault through a browser.

  1. Run Setup.exe on the Vault Client installation media.
  2. Click Install Tools & Utilities.
  3. Accept the License and Services Agreement.
  4. On the Configure Installation page, select Autodesk Vault Office 2017 (MS Office Add-ins)
  5. To select which Vault Office add-ins should be installed, open the configuration page.
  6. Select Custom and check the add-ins you wish to install.
  7. Close the configuration page.
  8. By default the Vault Office thin client functionality is installed to C:\Program Files\Autodesk\. Click the Browse button to select a different location.
  9. Click Install.

(Optional) Install the Vault Office Thick Client

    The Vault Office thick client is similar to the Vault thick client, but provides only non-CAD file and folder data management options. This client is ideal for users that do not need all of the CAD functionality of a the full Vault client, but who still need to manage related documents in a vault.

    Note: The Vault Office thick client should not be installed on the same machine as a Vault thick client.
  1. Run Setup.exe on the Vault Client installation media.
  2. Click Install.
  3. Accept the License and Services Agreement and click Next.
  4. Select the Product Language and click Next.
  5. Select Autodesk Vault Office 2017 (Client) and click Next.
  6. On the Configure Installation page, click the drop arrow beneath the Autodesk Vault <Year> (Client) option to select which Vault add-ins should be installed.
  7. Select Custom and check the add-ins you wish to install.
  8. Close the configuration page.
  9. By default the Vault Office client is installed to C:\Program Files\Autodesk\. Click the Browse button to select a different location.
  10. Click Install.
  11. Note: If you eventually want to change to the full Vault thick client, you must uninstall the Vault Office thick client first and then install the full Vault thick client.
