Production cost

The time it takes to manufacture a part and the associated costs are represented in the Production cost element.

To view the production cost information, click Home tab > Cost Efficiency panel > Information. The Alerts panel will define any production cost alerts.

Click on the Production cost icon from either the Alert or Information tab. A dialog appears displaying the Production cost rating and the basis of that rating.

Production cost information

Because plastic injection molded parts can have a large range of size and complexity, the Production cost indicator is based on a single cavity mold of average size and complexity.

Part's cycle time
Cycle time is the total time required to complete all the stages of the injection molding cycle.
The injection molding stages are listed in sequence below.
  • Injection stage
  • Packing/holding stage
  • Cooling stage
  • Mold open stage
The cooling stage is normally the longest part of the molding cycle and can account for up to 80 percent of the total cycle time. Reducing part thickness reduces the volume of material to be cooled. This can reduce the cycle time and production cost.
