Importing a 2D Drawing to Create a 3D Sketch

The Import as Sketch command lets you import a DWG file and create a 2D representation of the asset in Asset Builder.

To import a 2D drawing as a sketch:

  1. Select Import as Sketch from the 2D Sketch drop-down menu in Asset Builder.
  2. Locate the drawing to import and click Open.
  3. Select from the layers and objects import options, and then click Next. Click ? in the bottom left corner of the window to access the online help for details about these options.
  4. Select from the import destination options, and then click Finish. Click ? in the bottom left corner of the window to access the online help for details about these options.

    When the sketch is created, the selected DWG file is inserted into the sketch with automatically matching coordinates. You can reposition the inserted DWG file or use any of the other sketch commands.

  5. Make your edits and then click Finish Sketch.
  6. The sketch appears in the Publish Sketch drop-down on the 2D Options tab when you publish the asset.
