Fiber accuracy enhancements

A number of changes have been made to improve the accuracy of fiber calculations.

3D Reduced Strain Closure model and platelet orientation
The 3D Reduced Strain Closure (RSC) model now predicts accurately the orientation of platelet (disk) fillers with fiber aspect ratio (L/D) <1. In the shearing layer, platelets are now shown to orient themselves with their normal axis (principal direction) pointing in the thickness direction.

Improved accuracy around gates

Application of the fiber inlet orientation profile at the injection/tetrahedral mesh interface has been enhanced. The improved accuracy is evident for parts where the injection point is applied directly to the part, and when there is more than one tet node within the injection diameter.

In addition, the way in which the 3D Flow solver calculates the fiber orientation profile has been improved. The fiber inlet profile at the gate is now better preserved, resulting in a more accurate fiber orientation profile at the injection node, particularly for coarser meshes.

Long fibers

You can run analyses using the ARD-RSC model for fiber-filled materials containing fibers with initial length greater than 20mm. The upper limit has been extended to 100mm. Look at the fiber length result to compare the fiber length from the simulation and experimental data.
