Advancing Layers 3D Mesher

A new 3D Mesher based on Advancing Layers improves quality and analysis accuracy.

In Autodesk Moldflow Insight 2017, the default 3D mesher for parts is based on Advancing Layers. This mesher uses the same algorithms as the Autodesk Moldflow Insight 2016 mesher for mold components.

Note: The old 3D mesher is still available as a non-default mesher.

To access this new mesher, click (Mesh tab > Mesh panel > Generate Mesh). Advancing Layers is the default 3D Mesher.

Advantages of the New Advancing Layers 3D Mesher

• It does not rely on surface matching.
• The default value for number of elements through thickness has been changed from 6 to 10.
  

  Better refinement near brims

• It refines surface meshes near edges when there are no internal nodes on a surface.
• It generates better meshes in chunky regions and is about 30% faster than the old mesher.
• The transitions at centers are smoother.
