Improvements have been made to the Overlap diagnostics tool.
For the generation of a 3D mesh, the surface mesh of the part needs to be water tight so that the volume of the part can be meshed. Defects in the input geometry can have, among other issues, triangles that overlap or intersect each other. While the surface may appear to be complete, these defects cause a disconnection which prevent the part from being meshed. The Overlap diagnostic tool is used to locate this fault as a first step in the repair of the model.
Models that consist of a large mesh have taken an extended time to be analysed for overlaps and intersections. The implemented changes have resulted in the diagnostic time being reduced by around 60 - 80%. The generation of the mesh statistics is also faster as these statistics also incorporate mesh diagnostics.
In parallel to the speed improvements, the detection of errors is more robust. All known issues related to "overlaps/intersections could not be found" have been resolved with the modified algorithm.
