Creating a mold

Applies to 2017.3 Update and later

You can use the Mold Block Wizard to generate a CAD mold, or to generate the mold as a region. In either case, ensure that there are curves defining your feed system and cooling channels. Feed systems and cooling channels represented only by beam elements, without underlying curves, will not be considered.

  1. Ensure that your part properties is set to Part3D/Part Surface. It also needs to be in a visible layer.
Note: To generate a CAD mold, your part must be a CAD format.
  2. Click (Geometry tab > Create panel > Mold Block), to open the Mold Block Wizard.
    • You can create a CAD mold block, directly, by selecting Create as CAD mold block. This option requires that your part and inserts are clean and have no modeling errors.
    • You can generate the mold as a region, adjust the dimensions of the mold block until they are satisfactory, then create a CAD mold block, if you wish.
    • You can accept the default values and see how the mold looks.
  3. Click Finish. If the mold is not adequate, you can repeat the process and alter the dimensions until the mold is good.
  4. Ensure that all the elements included by the mold are correctly meshed. You are now ready to create the mold mesh.
