Creating a critical dimension for optimization

A critical dimension is a specific part dimension, which must meet the defined tolerances. A critical dimension is defined by the distance between two specified locations, and is used to study part shrinkage and warpage.

  1. Click (Boundary Conditions tab > Dimensions panel > Critical Dimensions) and select Optimization from the drop-down menu.
  2. Click the location on your model and the ID is placed in the Location 1 box automatically.
  3. Repeat the process for the second location.
  4. Type a name in the Name box that is unique to this study.
  5. Click Apply to create a critical dimension. The critical dimension is placed in a separate layer containing optimization critical dimensions. This layer is located in the Constraints layer folder.
  6. To close the Tools tab, click Close.
