Structural Connection Input Elements

Learn about the valid input elements for structural connections.

Steel beams, columns, braces and concrete isolated foundations, beams, columns, slabs and walls are valid input elements for structural connections. Columns, beams and braces in user defined families and in Autodesk delivered families that are not Standard Structural Steel families are supported. Any changes you make in the families will not be ignored.

The connection types that allow one concrete input element are the base plate connections: Base plate, Corner base plate, Base plate cut and Tube base plate. The concrete elements are not mandatory for the connection to work and can only be secondary input elements. The concrete class of the element is automatically used inside the Code Checking engine for verifications.

If a base plate connection is created without the secondary concrete element, the Switch beam end check box appears in the base plate connection parameter dialog, in the Base plate layout tab. You must also specify the concrete class in the Code Checking menu.
