Use the Family Types dialog to organize, create, and modify family type parameters.
Tool or field | Description |
---|---|
Type Name | Selects the type in which parameter values are to be edited. |
New Type | Adds a type to the family. The newly created type copies all parameter values and formulas from the currently selected type. |
Rename Type | Opens a dialog in which you can enter a new name for the family type. |
Delete Type | Deletes the currently selected family type. |
Search |
Accepts text strings to narrow the listing of parameters of the family type. The search field matches text strings in the Parameter, Value, and Formula fields. For example, enter thickness to show only parameters containing the word thickness |
Clear Search | Clears the search text string to reveal all available parameters. |
Parameter | To edit this field, click the (Edit Parameter) button. |
Value | Edits the value associated with the parameter. |
Formula | Displays the formula that can generate the parameter value. Formulas can be used to calculate values based on the values of other parameters. |
Lock | Constrains the parameter to the current value. |
Edit Parameter | Opens the Parameter Properties dialog to modify the currently selected parameter. Note that there are built-in parameters that cannot be edited in most Revit families. |
New Parameter | Opens the Parameter Properties dialog to create a new parameter to the family. |
Delete Parameter | Deletes the currently selected parameter from the family. Note that there are built in parameters that cannot be deleted in most Revit families. |
Move parameter up | Repositions the parameter up one in the dialog parameter list within its group. |
Move parameter down | Repositions the parameter down one in the dialog parameter list within its group. |
Sort parameters in ascending order | Sorts the dialog parameter list in alphabetical order within each group. |
Sort parameters in descending order | Sorts the dialog parameter list in reverse alphabetical order within each group. |
OK | Accepts the changes to parameters and closes the Family Types dialog. |
Cancel | Cancels the changes to parameters and closes the Family Types dialog. |
Apply | Accepts the changes to parameters leaving the Family Types dialog open. |
