Upgrade Information for Collaboration for Revit (Alternate Method)

When you transition from an older release of Collaboration for Revit to a newer release of Collaboration for Revit, you must upgrade the project and its Revit models. In the following workflow, you upgrade the models individually in the Collaboration for Revit project.

For the recommended method, see Upgrade Project Models for Collaboration for Revit (Recommended Method)

Follow these steps to upgrade an Collaboration for Revit project and associated Revit models before you start working in a newer release of Revit.

  1. Launch the older release of Revit.
  2. Browse to the cloud project that you want to upgrade.
  3. Open each Revit model and save it to your local workstation.
  4. Create a new project to be used with the newer release of Collaboration for Revit in your BIM 360 Team hub.
  5. Launch the newer release of Revit.
  6. Open each Revit model that was saved to your local workstation in step 3 and save it.

A newer version of the model is created.

  7. Initiate collaboration on each model and specify the new project name that was created on BIM 360 Team in step 4.

When you initiate collaboration, the model is associated with the new Collaboration for Revit project.

  8. Re-link the Revit models as needed.
  9. Communicate to project team members that they should use the new project.

There are now two separate and distinct projects (newer version and older version). Project team members must use the upgraded project and models when collaborating.

  10. On BIM 360 Team, rename the older version of the project or deactivate it.
