What's New in V2018 (April 2017)

To identify the version of software that you are running, click the Down Arrow to the right of the Help icon. This icon is at the far right end of the program title bar. Then, click About:

Autodesk Simulation Mechanical 2018 is identified as follows:

Build 2018.00.00.nnnn dd-Month-2017

(where nnnn, dd, and Month are set during the final build of the software)

Note: The following list is not necessarily comprehensive. There may be other minor changes to the software that are not listed on this page.

CAD Interoperability / Bundled Applications

• The CAD application, SimStudio Tools, is no longer included with Simulation Mechanical as a bundled application for 2018. Therefore, the SimStudio command has been removed from the Edit panel of the Tools ribbon tab. CAD solid and surface models can be transferred one way only, from supported CAD applications into Simulation Mechanical (but not from Simulation Mechanical). You will have to use a CAD application of your choice to create and modify solid or surface models for use in Simulation Mechanical. Please check the following pages to confirm compatibility between your CAD application and Simulation Mechanical:
  • Import CAD Solid Models with CAD Application
  • Import CAD Solid Models without CAD Application

  Otherwise, export models from your CAD application to a universal format (such as STEP or IGES), which Simulation Mechanical can open directly.

Tutorials

• The following tutorials have been eliminated:
  • Meshing and Modeling Tutorials:
    • Support Beam CAD Model (for SimStudio Tools Workflow)
    • Create Circuit Board CAD Model in Autodesk SimStudio Tools
  • Analyzing and Evaluating Results Tutorials:
    • Support Beam Static Stress Analysis and Modification using SimStudio Tools

Autodesk Nastran Editor

• You can no longer launch the Autodesk Nastran Editor from the Windows® Start Menu. You must launch it from within Simulation Mechanical:

  (Application Menu) Export Autodesk Nastran Editor.
