To Simplify Data Display

Reduce the level of detail that is displayed in the drawing.

Turning On or Off Level of Detail View

To turn on or off the level of detail view, click View tabViews panelLevel of Detail.

Alternatively, you can use the LevelOfDetail and LevelOfDetailOff commands to turn on or off the level of detail view.

The in the upper left corner of the viewport indicates that the level of detail view is active.

Note: If the drawing must use proxy graphics, turn off the level of detail view before you save it. For more information, see To Use Proxy Graphics.

Working with the Level of Detail View

As you zoom out, the displayed amount of drawing data decreases. Reducing the level of detail improves Autodesk Civil 3D performance.

As you zoom in, the displayed amount of drawing data increases.

When you plot a drawing, the full detail of all objects will be included, even if level of detail mode is on.

Note: Surfaces are the only objects that are affected by the level of detail view. Surface borders, user-defined contours, and watersheds are not affected by the level of detail view. These items are always displayed in full detail.

Editing an Object in Level of Detail View

When the level of detail view is active, some editing options are not available when the drawing display is zoomed out. When a lower level of detail is displayed (while zoomed out), the cursor is displayed as a red icon to indicate that you must zoom in to the true level of detail to edit the object.

For example, surface edit options that require selecting a point or edge (Add Line, Delete Line, Swap Edge, Add Point, Delete Point, Modify Point, Move Point) are available only when full level of detail is displayed.
