Add threads to cylindrical features.
The process described here assumes there is an existing cylindrical feature that will have a threaded feature applied to it. Typically, this command is used for external features. The hole command has options for creating threaded holes.
- Click
3D Model tab

.
- In the graphics window, select a face for the thread location.
Tip: Select Display in Model to specify the use of thread representations in the model.
- Set the Thread Length:
- Full Length: (Default) Threads the entire length of the selected face, defining the offset, length, and direction automatically.
- Length: If Full Length is deselected, specifies the threaded portion of the selected face.
- Offset: If Full Length is deselected, sets distance from the start face of the thread.
- Click the Specification tab to set the thread type using predefined types from the Thread data spreadsheet:
- Thread Type: Selects the thread type from the list defined in the spreadsheet.
- Size: Selects nominal size (diameter) for the chosen Thread Type.
- Designation: Selects pitch for the chosen Size.
- Class: Selects thread class for the chosen Size and Designation.
- Right Hand or Left Hand: Specifies the direction of the thread. Used for thread notes, but does not affect size or thread appearance.
- Click OK. To ensure performance is maximized, Inventor displays the threads using a cosmetic appearance, or texture, rather than modeling actual threads.
