Change where Maya saves files

Maya saves your files in the Projects folder by default. Projects are a way to keep track of the files related to a scene by storing them in one location, and is used because scenes can depend upon multiple resources from different locations. See Organize Files into Projects for more information.

If you want to set another location for Maya to save your files, go to the Preferences window and set a different Project.

To set a new default location for saved files

  1. Select Windows > Preferences from the Maya main menu.
  2. Select the Files/Projects category and in the Project Settings area, set a new default project where your file will be saved.
Note: The Files/Projects category also has information on auto saving your files, as well as where to save the auto saved files, and in what time intervals.
