To create an initial charge

Compression molding analyses require both a part mesh and an initial charge mesh for simulation.

Create a tetrahedral mesh of an appropriate size for the initial charge, and position it in the correct XY location above the part.
  1. Click Select, Viewer toolbar Select.
  2. Select all the elements of the initial charge.
  3. Click Assign (Mesh tab > Properties panel > Assign).
  4. In the Assign Property dialog, click New > Initial charge (3D), or select an initial charge (3D) option if one has already been created to your specifications.
  5. In the Initial charge (3D) dialog, if you are using a fiber-filled material, enter the initial fiber orientation values here, or use the default values.
Note: If you specify a flexible charge, as explained in a later step, these values are used to automatically change the initial fiber orientation in accordance with the deformation of the flexible charge. To generate the average fiber orientation result, check in the Fiber/Filler tab of the materials database that the Aspect Ratio (L/D) of your material is not equal to 1.
  6. With your values entered, click OK to close the dialog boxes.
  7. To create a flexible initial charge, select Flexible in the Process Settings Wizard.
The solver recognizes this mesh as an initial charge, and treats it accordingly.
