Constraints - One-sided Constraints

This tool is used to constrain locations on one side of a Part Insert (3D) or Core (3D) component, prior to running a Core Shift analysis.

To access this tool, click (Boundary Conditions tab > Constraints and Loads panel > Constraints > One-sided Constraint).

The One-sided Constraint command is used to constrain all translational degrees of freedom at the selected location(s). Select the locations to be constrained with the mouse, click Apply, and the one-sided locational constraint(s) will be displayed on the model.

Dialog element Explanation
Select Select one or more locations to constrain. As you select them, they will appear in the box next to Select.
Translation The one-sided constraints must be defined for all 6 translation degrees of freedom; +X, +Y, +Z, -X, -Y, and -Z. For each of these the options are:
  • Fixed - this is the default setting
  • Free - this option means there is no constraint along this axis
  • Specified Max - enter a distance in mm
