To create cooling channels manually

To model a cooling circuit manually, create the beams which make up your cooling circuit, assign their properties (different circuits may require different temperatures, flow rates etc.), generate the channels, and assign coolant inlets.

Note: To generate a 3D channel mesh for a Cool (FEM) analysis, refer to the 3D channel mesh topics.
  1. Create curves which describe the required cooling circuit layout.
  2. Select the curve(s) to be converted.
Tip: Convert sections of a large, complex cooling system separately. This enables a simpler verification of the converted beam elements.
  3. Click Assign properties (Geometry tab > Properties panel > Assign). The Assign Property dialog appears.
  4. Click New and select Channel from the drop-down list. The Channel dialog appears.
  5. Select the properties as needed.
  6. Click OK to close the dialog.
  7. Continue to assign properties to all channels. Sections which extend outside the mold may be assigned as Hose (heat transfer effectiveness=0).
  8. Manually mesh the created curves.
