3 Point Rotate tool

Applies to 2017.4 Update and later

Use the 3 Point Rotate 3 Point Rotate command to rotate the selected entities by defining a plane to transform onto the XY plane.

The 3 Point Rotate tool enables you to copy or move selected parts of the model, for example, to create a multi-cavity model.

Note: For CAD entities,
  • The Move option transforms the entire CAD assembly.
  • The Copy option copies the CAD assembly components that you select, and then transforms the copy.

To access this tool, click 3 Point Rotate (Geometry tab > Utilities panel > Move > 3 Point Rotate).

Dialog element Explanation
Coordinate 1 Specifies how the selected entities are rotated by defining an origin.

The selected entities are rotated so that Coordinate 1 is placed on the axis origin.

Enter the X, Y and Z values of the coordinate directly in the box, or, click on a location in the model display window. If you want the selection to snap to a particular model aspect, for example, a node, select an entry in the Filter drop-down list before clicking on the model.

Coordinate 2 Specifies how the selected entities are rotated by defining the X axis direction.

The selected entities are rotated so that the line between Coordinate 1 and Coordinate 2 is placed on the X axis.

Enter the X, Y and Z values of the coordinate directly in the box, or, click on a location in the model display window. If you want the selection to snap to a particular model aspect, for example, a node, select an entry in the Filter drop-down list before clicking on the model.

Coordinate 3 Specifies how the selected entities are rotated by defining the XY plane.

The selected entities are rotated so that the plane defined by Coordinate 1, Coordinate 2, and Coordinate 3 is placed on the XY plane.

Enter the X, Y and Z values of the coordinate directly in the box, or, click on a location in the model display window. If you want the selection to snap to a particular model aspect, for example, a node, select an entry in the Filter drop-down list before clicking on the model.

Move or copy Select the Move radio button if you wish to move the entities to a new location, while deleting them from their original location.

Select the Copy radio button if you wish to keep the entities in their original location, and copy them to a new location.

Layer Allows you to specify a layer where to copy or move entities. The options change depending on whether you select Move or Copy . Select:
  • Copy to existing layer (or Move without changing layer) to copy (or move) entities without changing their layers.
  • Copy to new layer (or Move to new layer) to copy (or move) entities from one or more layers to a new layer.
  • Copy to active layer (or Move to active layer) to copy (or move) entities from one or more layers to the active layer.
Create as Allows you to simultaneously create a modeling entity and assign properties to it. For example
  • You can create a curve and assign runner properties to it.
  • You can create a region and assign part surface properties to it.

In some cases you have the option to Create as modeling entity. No properties will be assigned. This option may be appropriate if, for example, you are creating curves to construct a region. You must assign properties to the region, but you don't need to assign properties to the curves.

To change the properties of an entity, click Change .
Filter The filter helps you select a desired model or mesh entity. When you use a filter, the pointer will snap to the specified entity.
