Extrude tool dialog

The Extrude command shifts a selection of triangles to a new location. It also joins the displaced triangles to the rest of the mesh with a linear tube of triangles. Use this tool to create features or new bodies.

To access this tool, click (Mesh tab > Mesh Edit panel > Advanced > Extrude).

Dialog element Explanation
Select base triangles Select the triangles that are to be extruded.
Taper factor for selection area Enter the taper required for the extruded section. A value of 1 represents a parallel extrusion.
Distance from original position Enter the extrusion distance (normal to the surface). Enter a positive number to move the selected elements further from the origin and a negative number to move them closer.
Preview Avoid input mistakes or unexpected intersection by checking results before applying changes.
Remesh surrounding triangles
Selected
All new triangles on side faces are remeshed based on the average edge length in the selection area. This provides a smooth transitions between surfaces. This option is the default.
Deselected
A minimum number of triangles are created on side faces to connect with the rest of the mesh.
Duplicate selection and create a separate body Check this box to use a different type of element for the extrusion. A separate body will be created while the original body will not be affected.
Create as This feature is only relevant when Duplicate selection and create a separate body is selected. Click to choose the property to assign to the new separate body.
Note: This function can leave isolated nodes, click (Mesh tab > Mesh Edit tab > Purge Nodes), to ensure any isolated nodes are removed.
