To add a part

Use the Add button to import additional parts into your model. This can be useful when modeling a family mold, or when bringing in the mold and mold components separately.

A family mold contains two or more cavities, and each cavity forms a part to an assembled product. Unlike multi-cavity molds that have multiple identical cavities, family molds have multiple cavities that are not identical.

Once you have added the second part, you will need to orient it correctly, using the Move tools in the Utilities panel of the Geometry tab.

  1. Click (Home tab > Import panel > Add).
  2. Select the Files of type drop-down list.

The list of file types directly supported is shown. Select All Models to show the list of model file formats in your directory.

  3. Navigate to the folder in which your part is saved, select it and click Open.
  4. Select the analysis technology to be used from the drop-down list.
  5. If you selected a native CAD geometry, do one of the following:
    • Click OK to import the model in its native format, or
    • Check Use Autodesk Moldflow Design Link to translate the model.
    • Note: If you selected this last option, click Advanced, edit the meshing parameters as appropriate, and click OK.
