Smoothing a part can help to refine surface roughness and round off corners and sharp edges.
- Select the part.
- Click
.
- Switch to the
Smoothing tab.
- Adjust the
Strength to control how many iterations of the smoothing process are performed. With each iteration, each corner of the mesh is considered. The average position of the adjacent nodes is calculated and the position of the original corner is moved to this average location. This has the effect of smoothing surfaces and rounding off corners and sharp edges.
- Enable the
Independent of Triangulation check box to smooth the part based on the actual shape of the part as opposed to the triangulation. This has the effect of limiting the deformation of the part.
- Enable the
Prevent Shrinking check box to maintain the volume of the original part and mesh.
- Click
Refine Mesh to reduce the maximum edge length.
- Click
Calculate to produce a preview of the new mesh.
- Enable the
Show Triangles check box to display the mesh edges.
- Click and hold
Show Original Mesh to see original mesh before the smoothing operation.
- Enable the
Autoupdate check box to immediately update the model as you adjust the smoothing settings.
- Click
Save Settings to save the smoothing settings for later use.
- Click
OK to apply the smoothing.
